In summer 2025, the major photo exhibition "Wenn die Nacht am tiefsten - Ton Steine Scherben in ihrer Zeit" (When Night is Deepest - Ton Steine Scherben in Their Time) will be revived in Wilhelmshaven, tracing the history of Ton Steine Scherben and the era of the late 60s and early 70s.

The catalog for this exhibition was released in 2022, and now in 2025, an expanded 2nd edition is available. 336 pages with over 350 photographs and numerous interview excerpts with the band and contemporaries make it clear: Ton Steine Scherben was not merely a music group rehearsing in a practice room and dreaming of concerts. Rather, like many others in the late 60s and early 70s, they were searching for change and self-determination. Documentary, iconic press photos from more than 50 local and international photographers recall the post-war period in the first part of the catalog: images from the societal wall of silence regarding Nazi crimes, across the physical wall in divided Berlin, to the cultural revolution of rock 'n' roll, the US civil rights movement, APO, and protests against the Vietnam War show the revolt of the 60s and 70s and its influence as "cultural DNA" on the development of Ton Steine Scherben. The second part of the catalog features images from photographers who accompanied the band sporadically or for longer periods with their cameras: the band's founding from the roots of theater, the Rauch-Haus occupation and other actions with young people, living and working together in the commune on Tempelhofer Ufer, moving to and living in the countryside in Fresenhagen, North Frisia, as well as tours and record productions on their own "David Volksmund Produktion" label and various theater projects.

The third, new part of the re-edition documents important events of recent years. Topics include the renaming of Berlin's Heinrichplatz to Rio-Reiser-Platz, the big celebration at the Volksbühne, but also tributes to deceased band members Lanrue and Schlotterer. Furthermore, there is a discourse by and about the band on the political issues of 2025: once again, it becomes clear: Ton Steine Scherben is not a nostalgic event, but fully present in the here and now.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0790/4034/8492/files/l_ton_steine-scherben_wenn_die_nacht_am_tiefsten_ton_steine_scherben_in_ihrer_zeit_buch.jpg?v=1789513485
https://shop.steeltownrecords.de/en/products/p28950_ton-steine-scherben-wenn-die-nacht-am-tiefsten-ton-steine-scherben-in-ihrer-zeit-buch
