The Crawdaddys are without a doubt the finest rhythm & blues combo to ever emerge from San Diego. Pioneers of the whole ’60s cult, heroes to generations of California mods, their members have gone on to countless bands of wider renown, while this original recording, done for $12, still towers miles above most everything else. Raw, urgent, rootsy, and stylish beyond belief, this is one album everyone needs to own.
Formed in San Diego at the tail end of the 1970s, The Crawdaddys stood apart from the punk explosion surrounding them, reviving the raw rhythm & blues spirit of the early British Invasion with unshakable devotion. Their debut album Crawdaddy Express, originally released in l979 on Voxx Records, captures the band at full throttle, gritty guitars, swirling organ, and a ferocious live energy straight out of a sweaty basement club circa 1965.
