Clubs and subcultural spaces have shaped Berlin for decades, making the city a place of longing for people from all over the world. Legendary examples include the meeting places of the 1980s punk and new wave underground or the techno clubs of the 1990s. The party and concert venues are often also witnesses to the city's turbulent history, telling tales of the Cold War or the fall of the Berlin Wall. This book is dedicated to them, including famous discotheques, secret meeting places of the GDR opposition, and subcultural adventure playgrounds of various stripes. Many of these places no longer exist today or face an uncertain future. They tell of a Berlin that no longer is, and how severely club and subculture are affected by displacement. Tine Fetz has immortalized 60 of these "Places" in illustrations, and Daniel Schneider has written their stories. The texts are printed in both German and English.
